No more Texas governors for president

After going public, I’ve received a flood of physical and legal threats in emails and tweets. People have found my address and have shown up at my door. It’s possible I may have to move. And I’ve had to contact several lawyers and have incurred legal expenses. I might incur more going forward. I always knew that if I talked about this, I could become a target, and I don’t want to be melodramatic, but some of the threats I’ve received do cause me to be concerned for my safety and that of my loved ones.

Telling every woman to get a gun is not rape prevention. The reality is that we need to be changing how we train and teach young men. We need to teach them to see women as human beings and respect their bodily autonomy. We need to teach them about consent and to hold themselves accountable.

Isn’t it nice when unhinged white folks can record YouTube videos of themselves threatening to kill people if they don’t get their way, and the only response is that the local Department of Homeland Security revokes their gun permit?

If James Yeager had been Jalal al Yeager or Tyrone Yeager, who wants to wager that the response to his roid tantrum this week would have been vastly different?

cognitivedissonance:

The state of Tennessee has revoked the handgun carry permit of James Yeager, the Tennessee CEO of Tactical Response, after he posted a YouTube video threatening to “start killing people” if Obama’s gun control measures went “one inch further.”

“The number one priority for our department is to ensure the public’s safety. Mr. Yeager’s comments were irresponsible, dangerous, and deserved our immediate attention. Due to our concern, as well as that of law enforcement, his handgun permit was suspended immediately. We have notified Mr. Yeager about the suspension today via e-mail. He will receive an official notification of his suspension through the mail,” Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said, according to local NBC affiliate WBIR News.

In his original video, Yeager had said that if Obama strengthened gun control or banned assault weapons, or if President Obama’s gun control “goes one inch further, I’m going to start killing people.”

I posted about James Yeager here. He posted another video talking about his quickly-assembled “army” and backpedaling from the whole killing people statement later, but barely:

Yeager also doubles down on his warnings, claiming thousands of people have contacted him, some asking him what they should do.

“I don’t know, but I did tell you to load your mags, make sure your gun’s clean, and pack a backpack.”

“And all you fair-weather Second Amendment people that are telling me that I’m doing a fucking disservice to the gun community, by saying that I’m not going to stand for the tyranny, fuck you, our country wasn’t founded by fucking fair-weather pussies.”

But then Yeager somewhat changes course, saying, “I don’t condone anyone doing anything rash, I don’t condone anybody committing any felonies, up to and including aggravated assaults, or murders — unless it’s necessary.”

Glad to see Tennessee took notice of this guy. Let’s hope he’s all talk and no action. Much like Alex Jones, he’s one of the best arguments for gun control out there.

Thank God.

Beck cultists threaten congresswoman’s life.

Raw Story:

An African-American Congresswoman from New York was forced to call the police on Thursday after she says an edited video posted on Glenn Beck’s website incited threats of violence against her.

Judith Kargbo, a spokeswoman for Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), confirmed to Raw Story that the Congresswoman’s office had asked Capital Police to investigate calls threatening the lawmaker.

“On April 19th, the congresswoman went within the district to speak to Prospect Heights Democrats for Reform,” Kargbo explained. “There she was giving an overview of her agenda in Congress and pretty much using the example of the tea party to show how important mobilization is and organization is.”

Yeah, it’s Breitbart/Sherrod all over again — mostly because wingnuts are notoriously slow learners.

So what out-of-context thing got these nuts so bent out of shape that they’d threaten murder?

“That clip that was originally on the Prospect Heights Democrats for Reform site was edited and was posted up on TheBlaze.com, and that of course is Glenn Beck’s website,” she continued. “That was edited down and what people were taking away from it was that the congresswoman was saying that all tea party members are crazy and all tea party individuals show the ugly side of the United States.”

In the words of Futurama’s Philip J. Fry, “People said I was dumb, but I proved them!”

  • Babeu: It has been revealed that I am a homosexual...
  • Romney: I'm okay with that.
  • Babeu: ...having an affair with a man...
  • Romney: Of course.
  • Babeu: ....who is an illegal immigrant.
  • Romney: Oh dear. Well, I'm sorry Im going to have to let you go.
  • Babeu: Because I had a homosexual affair with an illegal immigrant?
  • Romney: No, Mr. Babeu, because I like firing people.
  • Babeu: But I resigned!
  • Romney: Don't take the fun out of this for me!
  • Babeu: Oh, okay, sorry.
